1. What is a vowel? How many vowels are there in English? Name them.

A vowel is a letter standing for an open sound that can be spoken independently.

    There are five (5) vowels in English.

    They are - a, e, i, o, u
 
2. What is semi-vowel ? How many are they in all? Name them.
Ans:
 Semi - vowel are the letters that sometimes sound as vowel and sometimes as non-vowels.

    There are two semi-vowels in all.

    They are - w and y.
 
3. What is a consonant? How many are there in all? Name them.
Ans:
 A consonant is a letter that can sound with the help of some vowel or semi-vowel only.
 
There are twenty one consonants in all.
 
They are -- b, c, d, f, g, h, j, k, l, m, n, p, q, r, s, t, v, w, x, y, z
 
4. What is syllable?
Ans:
 A single vowel or a group of letters with one vowel-sound is called a syllable.
